Why Rural Recipes
Rural Recipes began in 2003 in the Calder Valley, serving the area in and around Hebden Bridge and Todmorden. The Calder Valley has an abundance of locally sourced produce and suppliers and the locals who live there are focused on being involved with providing for or supporting their community. This helped us to shape and form our business into what it is today.
We started in our own humble kitchen in our barn conversion in the village of Lumbutts, above Todmorden town, making quiche, flans and various pastries from locally sourced farm gate eggs, cheeses and home grown vegetables. These products were then sold to local restaurants, cafes, delis and shops, including Bear Health Foods and cafe bar.
A number of years ago we relocated to Steeton in the Aire Valley and have full working kitchens where we still produce homemade products made with ingredients from a wide range of local producers. We still provide on a wholesale basis but mainly to holiday cottages and Bed and Breakfast outlets, such as Poppy Cottage Guest House.
Our business has mainly moved in the direction of outside catering events which range from small intimate dinner parties to large festivals like the Keighley and Craven CAMRA beer festivals. We also cater for many weddings, from a handful of people to sit down service events, for up to 300 people. Many of these events are marquee and village hall events, in particular we have catered for many events at Cracoe Village Hall.
Our menus are designed to work with as many local products as we can source, from suppliers like Three Dales Butchers in Ilkley, Lunds and S.Kitchman from Keighley and Burley in Wharfedale to Procter's cheeses who supply a wide range of local Yorkshire cheese & pickles.
We have found over the years that our clients like to be involved in designing their own menus, so we decided to work on a bespoke menu selection, making your choice of foods and costs flexible to your needs. Due to our flexibility this has enabled us to build up a regular core of repeat business, which will take us to expand in the years to come.
